First Step In San Mateo

If you or someone you know is homeless and has children, the partnership between Peninsula Family Service and Shelter Network may be able to help. Family Service operates the First Step Child Development Centers within Shelter Network’s transitional housing complex in San Mateo. The First Step program provides childcare to homeless families in a safe environment where children are treated with warmth and respect.

Homelessness and poverty create seemingly impossible challenges to overcome. Let us help you get on the right track.

Based on the Haven program, First Step provides nurturing childcare to homeless, at-risk pre-school children, ages 18-months to 5 years. Many of these children face challenges such as family violence, impaired parental attachment, parental substance abuse and depression, and issues of abandonment and loss.

In Partnership With The Shelter Network

First Step mirrors the Haven program and provides care to homeless children at the San Mateo transitional housing facility. Most children live on-site with their care providers.
