The Fall Senior Peer Counseling Training is Here!

Have you ever felt lonely? Or perhaps needed someone to talk to? Friends are always there to listen and to help us feel better. Unfortunately for many older adults, there are no friends left to turn to.

Difficult life changes and the loss of their loved ones push many older adults deep into depression. But you can make a difference in their lives. If you live in San Mateo County and are 55 years or older, VOLUNTEER one hour a week and BECOME a Senior Peer Counselor.

The Senior Peer Counseling Program provides FREE training and matches you with an older adult to offer supportive listening. Here is what some of our Senior Peer Counselors have said about the program:

“My client knows i will always be there for her. She refers to me as her rock.”

“I am the only visitor she has in the nursing facility. When we go for coffee, it is her only opportunity to go out.”

“He lives alone and was very inactive. Since I started visiting, he is willing to move around. We walk in the park once a week and share stories.”

Senior Peer Counselors are 55+, have an interest in working with older adults, are good listeners, caring and compassionate, have transportation, are able to volunteer 1 hour a week, and meet with fellow volunteers twice a month.

If you are interested, we invite you to join one of our information sessions, where we will walk you through the process and get you on your way to start changing the lives of older adults in our community!

English Training runs from October 2 through October 31. Spanish Training runs from September 22 through Nov 3.
