Our Commitment to Support the Vulnerable Members of Our Community

Early Learning Support Update

Our Early Learning teachers and family engagement staff have been a lifeline to the families we support. In partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank of Silicon Valley, every Wednesday families pick up food boxes at our Midway Child Development Center in Daly City. Over 200 boxes of food are handed out each week by staff and volunteers. Our teachers prepare and deliver learning activity kits for the children, as well as gift cards for essential needs, provided through the COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund.

Financial Empowerment Support Update

Ricardo, a single father of two, who lost his job as a nightshift manager at a local hotel, recently came to our Financial Empowerment program to get qualified for a hybrid-electric vehicle through our DriveForward Electric loan program. After working hard to overcome many difficulties due to COVID-19, he needed a little help to secure a reliable vehicle in order to start his new job. PFS staff were able to assist Ricardo in getting a used Toyota Prius Hybrid. After COVID-19 had turned his life upside down, PFS was able to help him get his life back on track to support his two children.

Older Adult Services Support Update

Rose is a retired, 65-year-old woman living in Daly City who recently lost her husband and last remaining family member to COVID-19. She was concerned about how she was going to support herself moving forward. After Rose reached out to our Second Careers staff in our Older Adult Services program, PFS was able to help her find a job as a temporary Census worker. Since obtaining the job, she has now been promoted to a full-time position and is helping others in her community be counted.

At PFS, we are Opening Doors, Changing Lives for our neighbors, through today’s challenges and far beyond, meeting any hardships we face as a community. However you decide to support PFS, please make a donation today!
