Our Volunteers Thrive During COVID-19

Volunteers are writing thoughtful note cards to our aging neighbors who usually visit  Fair Oaks Adult Activity Center and our Senior Peer Counseling participants. More than 100 note cards were written and donated by National Charity League Crystal Springs Chapter. Many more cards are being written and distributed every week by new volunteers.

Several volunteers have hand-sewn face masks that will be given out to our teachers and students when they go back into the classroom. One of our Senior Peer Counselors has also made masks for our Older Adult Services participants.

NetSpend has committed to help some of our Financial Empowerment participants. NetSpend will donate 10, $100 prepaid debit cards to help these participants with their needs.

To date, Mom’s Against Poverty (MAP) has donated 210 boxes of food since April. PFS staff and volunteers have organized a drive-through style box pick-up for the families we support in our Early Learning program. Each week food boxes are given to families at child development sites including: 87th Street, First Step, Haven, Mission, Our Second Home, and our San Mateo location.

In partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank of Silicon Valley, drive-through meal distribution occurs every Friday at our Midway Child Development Center in Daly City. 180 boxes are given out every week to the families we support by our own staff and volunteers.
