About the Garden Club

Each Friday, older adults gather in the garden at Fair Oaks to tend the overflowing raised beds and lush potted plants. Hands that tremble with age confidently pluck bright red tomatoes and snap pea-pods off climbing vines, produce to be shared among the group. Muscles warm and loosen as the sun rises above the tree-line. On these mornings, the peaceful garden hums with the energy and conversation of friends new and old. Though a simple pleasure, gardening can fill the void left by children who have moved away, loved ones who have passed, and aging bodies that refuse to keep up with keen minds. By supporting the Garden Club, you ensure older adults have access to one of nature’s best medicines: nature itself.

“Flowers always make people better, happier, and more helpful; they are sunshine, food and medicine for the soul.” – Luther Burbank, famed botanist
